Why Use a Heavy Duty Extension Cable?
A heavy duty extension cable is essential for full GPU output. With the higher power demands of larger aircraft, it is essential to preserve the AC power between the breaker panel and the GPU. This means using a heavy-gauge, all-copper extension of the shortest possible length to minimize cable resistance and power loss to the GPU. If the extension cord is too long or too small a wire gauge, it will reduce the AC input voltage to the GPU at high-power and reduce its output.
High Voltage Service
All our GPUs are designed to accept worldwide AC input voltages from 90 to 260 volts, but operating at lower input voltages may limit the output current. With our high-output GPUs that can deliver more than 100 amps, you need a dedicated high-voltage electrical service of at least 200 volts to get full rated output.
An L6-20R twist-lock receptacle is recommended. If your hangar does not currently have this higher voltage circuit, it is not hard to install at your panel.
